It's OK and recommended in most occasions not to bind search to some categories.
It's also OK not to have any content element installed (Custom Properties falls back to default Joomla articles connector)
The following is the list of the most recent versions of Custom Properties's files.
You can get them by logging in into our site, Member Area, My Orders.

Hi, I am back
and I don't solve the problem
the last versions are installed and actived but now the cptags button at the bottom of the article editor don't appear… But I see the tags in the panel "assign custom properties"
with the utilities I can see that : plg_cptags not installed. The path to cptags.php seems miss a step, must it not be plugins/content/cptags/cptags.php ?
many thanks for your lighting

You can check if the plugin is installed and enabled with the standard Joomla tool (Extensions > Plugin manager > "Content")

You're definitely right. The path where "Utilities" looks for the cptags content plugin is wrong. So, that message, is a false positive. The path to cptags.php seems miss a step, must it not be plugins/content/cptags/cptags.php ?
