I have CP 2.2.2 on my Joomla 2.5.25 site. I am upgrading the Joomla to 3.3 - Will this version of CP work on the joomla 3.3 or do I need to get CP3? Also, is this a free update or will I need to purchase it?

No, it won't work.
Custom Properties for J2.5x is incompatible with J.3.x.
You need to purchase Custom Properties for J3.x
