Suggested upgrade path 1.98.2 to CP 3 was created by Steve Bonser
I currently have an old Joomla site running CP1.98.2 and need to upgrade the whole site to tha latest version of Joomla and CP.
What is the suggested upgrade path from CP 1.98.2 to CP 3 without losing any data ?
I understand that I will need to purchase CP3 for the upgraded joomla site.
Any help appreciated.
Thks

The safest method, as far as Custom Properties is concerned, consists of two steps:
1st) upgrade to Joomla 2.5
solidsystem.it/how-to-and-tutorials/149-...es-to-joomla-17.html
2nd) upgrade to 3.x
solidsystem.it/how-to-and-tutorials/177-...25-to-joomla-3x.html
Note: the official Joomla documentation says that it's possibile to upgrade from 1.5 straight to 3.x.
docs.joomla.org/How_do_I_upgrade_from_Joomla!_1.5_to_3.x%3F
We never tested this "single hop" upgrade, so I'm unable to say whether it'll work for Custom Properties too.
Anyway, as long as the articles' ids remain the same and the original database is not deleted by the upgrade process, it will be possible to migrate CP Tags (and assignments) with a few well crafted SQL queries.

Thanks for the quick response
If I perform the two step upgrade , does this mean I will have to purchase CP2 for J2.5 and CP3 for J3 ?
Just for info, I have managed the core update from 1.5 to 3 via SP upgrade and just have a few modules left to deal with including CP.

If custom properties tables have been migrated to the new 3.x database, the installer of Custom Properties for J 3 .x should be able to make the necessary adjustments.
So no, buying CP for J2.5 should not be necessary.

They haven't yet , but I can/should be able to migrate the following:-
_custom_properties
_custom_properties_fields
_custom_properties_values
I will have a go at this tomorrow and purchase CP 3

I see, thanks for the feedback. Now it's clear that custom properties tables have been left behind by the upgrade process.
I do assume that the articles have been migrated properly thou.
We'll be sending you a set of queries to upgrade CP tables to the latest standard.
