updating from 1.5 to 1.7

I have custom properties on a joomla 1.5 site it works really well but it took ages to set up because I had to tag over 200 articles. This site is being upgraded to 1.7 and I'm testing the new version of the site. I just bought CP for 1.7 and I would like to know how I can reinstate all of the tags I added to the articles in the older version of the site. I tried to import the values table from the old version to the new, but they do not have the same number of fields so php admin rejected my import.

please don't say I have to re-add all of the information I had before, that will depress me. Surely there is some way to port the old db info into the new db.
